'The Voice' Fans Are Freaking Out About This Comment About Blake Shelton

Season 22 of The Voice is coming to a close, but Blake Shelton and his wife Gwen Stefani don't appear to be feeling the pressure. In fact, they're cheering each other on -- and using pet names that are driving fans wild. For evidence of the latter phenomenon, just look at any piece of social media from the past week.

It All Started With An Olivia Newton-John Tribute

On a recent episode – which happened to be the season’s first live episode – a member of Team Blake, Rowan Grace, gave a memorable and touching performance of Hopelessly Devoted to You. The song was meant as a tribute to Olivia Newton-John, who of course passed away recently.

But after the 17-year-old finished her performance, Stefani chimed in with her own rousing words. As a way to kick off her feedback, she not only complimented her husband for selecting the song for Rowan Grace, but called Shelton “daddy.”

Shelton Kept Things G-Rated

"Wow, Daddy, you're doing so well with her!" Stefani told Shelton, likely referencing Grace’s young age. "Good job! Honestly, that was so beautiful."

Thankfully, Shelton quickly shut down any notion that Stefani’s use of “daddy” might imply some other less savory meaning.

"Taught her everything she knows," he replied to Stefani as the studio live audience laughed along.

'The Voice' Fans Quickly Took To Twitter

Still, while this moment seemed innocent enough, the Internet’s many Voice fans soon began creating a ruckus online about Stefani’s, well, unique choice of words.

“ DADDY “ - Gwen Stefani to Blake Shelton The moment we all collectively D!ed,” wrote one fan on Twitter.

"Gwen: 'You have mommy, now you have daddy.' [I'M DEAD]," added another.

"Mommy Gwen and Daddy Blake are so cute!” said another slightly less shocked fan.

In the end, Blake’s mentorship (or shall we say parenting) of Blake paid off, because Blake ended up making it into the top 13 contestants of the following night.

Shelton Is Actually More Of A Step-Daddy

This is all not to mention Blake Shelton’s actual thoughts on whether or not he plans to be a “daddy” one day. As fans may remember, the “God’s Country” singer once admitted that he “missed out on a lot” by not having children. Of course, once Stefani entered his life, Shelton gained the chance to become a stepdad to her three sons: Kingston, Apollo, and Zuma. His tune soon changed.

“I have a stepfather in my life who’s one of my heroes," Shelton told KFROG’s The Ride with Kimo & Heather at the time. "I love my stepfather and I look up to him and he’s like a father to me, so I have a good inspiration in my life for how to do this and the kind of stepdad I want to be. And I take it very serious.”
